Plot
Drama series follows the life Jang Yeong-Sil: a scientist, technician and inventor during the Joseon period.
Jang Yeong-Sil was born in the lower class nobi. King Sejong notices his abilities and brings him to the palace. King Sejong grants him a chance to display his abilities. He invents tools like astronomical instruments, iron printing press and a water clock.

Song Il Gook Confirmed for New Historical KBS Drama
Actor Song Il Gook has finally been confirmed to star in the drama that he has been attached to for some time now, KBS’ upcoming historical drama “Jang Young Sil” (working title), after much speculation and anxiety because of the possibility of him dropping “Superman Returns.”
Song Il Gook and his beloved triplets are currently appearing on “Superman Returns,” and the concern has been that they would have to drop out if Song Il Gook decides to do the drama because of scheduling conflicts. But rest assured, fellow fans. The Song family plans to stay, according to reports.
Jang Young Sil is expected to start airing on KBS in January 2016 and will run for 24 episodes. Song Il Gook will take on the titular role of Jang Young Sil who was a scientist and astronomer during the Joseon Dynasty.

Park Sun Young to Join Song Il Gook as Leading Lady in Upcoming Historical Drama
Song Il Gook will be joined by actress Park Sun Young in next year’s much-anticipated KBS historical drama!
The drama “Jang Young Sil” (working title) is the story of a genius scientist who lived during the Joseon period and created many amazing inventions while working at the royal court.
It’s said that there will be a tragic love story between Song Il Gook and Park Sun Young’s characters. This isn’t the first time that the two actors have worked together, as they previously acted out another sad love story in the drama “Crime Squad.”
“Jang Young Sil” started filming on September 16. It’s slatted to begin airing in January of next year, and will have 24 episodes.

Song Il-gook and Park Seon-yeong reunite with "Jang Yeong-sil"
KBS 1TV drama "Jang Yeong-sil" stars Song Il-gook and Park Seon-yeong. Anticipation focuses on the fact that this is the first time in 4 years since they have worked together.

Song Il-gook and Park Seon-yeong experienced unfortunate romance in "Detectives in Trouble" as well.
"Jang Yeong-sil" started filming on the 16th. The first episode will be released in January next year.

Song Il-gook and Kim Sang-kyeong, two handsome faces to lead new period drama, 'Jang Yeong-sil'
KBS' new period drama "Jang Yeong-sil" has confirmed the two leading actors: Song Il-gook and Kim Sang-kyeong.
Song Il-gook has already been confirmed for his role as Jang Yeong-sil in "Jang Yeong-sil" earlier. Kim Sang-kyeong, who will play King Sejong, is currently adjusting the details of his filming schedule.
"Jang Yeong-sil" is a new genre, historical science human drama that KBS is going to experiment for the first time. The drama will depict the life of the genius scientist Jang Yeong-sil in the 15th century in Joseon, who was born in a lowly family during the era when the Confucianism was regarded as the only way to live, and almost ended up living his entire life as a slave forever under the historic social circumstances.
Song Il-gook 's character, Jang Yeong-sil is a genius scientist in Joseon who invented pluviometer and water clock in Joseon Dynasty. Kim Sang-kyeong's character, King Sejong is the fourth King in Joseon Dynasty, who practiced the cultural policy that encouraged the scientists to invent practical scientific tools helpful for people's daily life.
Both Song Il-gook and Kim Sang-kyeong are the trusted actors for their prowess in period dramas. The period dramas including 'Emperor of The Sea' "Jumong" 'Land of wind' starring Song Il-gook were all successful. Kim Sang-kyeong played the same role King Sejong in 'The Great King Sejong', 2008 previously. How he will present his role as King Sejong this time is also drawing attention.
"Jang Yeong-sil" is currently slated to be broadcast in January next year.

KBS new period drama, "Jang Yeong-sil - Drama", which is slated to begin in January next year, has unveiled Song Il-gook's first still image.
The most highly anticipated drama in the first half of 2016, KBS 1TV's science period drama, "Jang Yeong-sil - Drama" has revealed the first still image of the leading actor Song Il-gook in slave clothes. The great scientist in the 15th century Joseon was actually a slave in the beginning, and the unfamiliar fact about the scientist, who is well-known for his internationally recognized scientific achievements, evokes curiosity in the viewers.
He was born in a status of government slave and went through the contempt and disdain from others.
