Song Jae-rim to romance Lee Hana in KBS’s Unkind Women



Song Jae-rim (Surplus Princess, Age of Feeling) finally gets the girl? It looks like someone’s movin’ on up in dramaland. Though judging by the title, it looks like he won’t be getting a nice girl. Song Jae-rim has scored his first leading role in a drama in KBS’s upcoming Wednesday-Thursday series Unkind Women, opposite Lee Hana (High School King of Savvy) who is currently in talks to headline. They’re both a little odd, so maybe it’ll be a surprising match?

Unkind Women is the new miniseries from PD Yoo Hyun-ki of My Daughter Seo-young and Brain, and writer Kim In-young of Equator Man and Women of the Sun. If she signs on (which is looking highly likely), Lee Hana will be reuniting with the writer for the third time, after starring in both Women of the Sun and Battle of Mary and Dae-gu. Moon Sori (Law of Attraction) and Kim Hye-ja (I Live in Cheongdam-dong) have already been cast, and one more spot needs to be filled in the family of four women.

The drama is about four women spanning three generations in one household, who share the same hot-blooded temperament. Kim Hye-ja is Grandma, a sharp-tongued cooking instructor, and Moon Sori plays one of two daughters, a successful anchorwoman who’s really hard on herself and the people around her. Lee Hana will play the granddaughter, a 29-year-old straight-laced bookworm who went to all the right schools and grad schools, who knows nothing but how to study well. She comes across a few students who need help getting into Seoul University, so she begins a tutoring group, through which she learns how to be a real teacher.

Song Jae-rim plays a fencing instructor who’s also a grad school classmate of Lee Hana’s. He’s not really interested in women and is prickly to most people, and he’s especially cold to women with lots of aegyo who try too hard to look good in front of him. Well that’s a strangely specific character description. Maybe it’s a roundabout way to explain how the jock will fall for the bookworm? Let’s just hope there’s some chemistry there.

Moon Sori, Kim Hye-ja for new KBS drama Unkind Women



The PD of the hit drama My Daughter Seo-young and the writer of Equator Man are teaming up for a Wednesday-Thursday drama for KBS in the new year, and wooing actresses Moon Sori (Law of Attraction) and Kim Hye-ja (Mother) to return to the small screen to star. If she signs on, it’ll have been seven years since Moon Sori has done a full-length television series (2008’s My Golden Age, and before that 2007’s Legend), while Kim Hye-ja headlined JTBC’s I Live in Cheongdam-dong three years ago.

The new series is called Unkind Women and features three generations of women who “share the same hot blood,” living under one roof. Kim Hye-ja is being courted to play the head matriarch, a cooking instructor with an infamous sharp tongue and a proclivity for swearing. She teaches a cooking class that’s so popular that there’s a ten-month wait to get in, and she’s known for cutting her students — mostly chaebol daughters-in-law — down to size. But she’s also the kind of woman who’s experienced a good deal of tribulation in her life, and uses her strength to help others.

Moon Sori has been offered the role of her troublemaker daughter, who’s lived a wayward life and only recently come to appreciate the love of her family. There will be another daughter with a lonely secret, and a granddaughter as well. It’s a family of women who aren’t very nice, figuring out how to love, succeed, and find happiness together.

Aw, it sounds like a lovely combo of strong women and heartwarming family drama. Directing is PD Yoo Hyun-ki (My Daughter Seo-young, Brain, God of Study), and writing is Kim In-young (When a Man Loves, Equator Man, The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry).

Unkind Women is being planned for 24 episodes, and follows King’s Face in February.

Chae Si Ra Confirmed for Drama “Unkind Women,” to Star alongside Kim Hye Ja and Lee Ha Na



Actress Chae Si Ra has chosen the upcoming KBS drama “Unkind Women” (working title) as her comeback project.

This will be her first drama in two years. An industry insider told Daily Sports on December 28, “Chae Si Ra will be starring in the KBS Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Unkind Women.”

In the drama, Chae Si Ra will portray Kim Hyun Sook, a woman who had an unwanted pregnancy at the age of 20. Determined that her daughter must have a better life than her, she manages to raise her daughter to be the youngest Doctorate degree holder. Veteran actress Kim Hye Ja will portray her mother, while Lee Ha Na will play her intelligent daughter.

Chae Si Ra’s last drama was “Five Fingers,” which aired more than two years ago.

“Unkind Women” will be directed by Yoon Hyun Gi, who is known for his works for “God of Study,” and “Brain.” The script will be written by screenwriter Kim In Young, who penned “Man from the Equator” and “Women from the Sun.”

“Unkind Women” will start airing in February after the completion of “The King’s Face.”

'Unkind Women' is a drama that will be following the story of a mother, her daughter, and her granddaughter as they pursue love, success, and happiness. A story revolving around three generations of women, it will be a drama that has a strong focus on family.

Song Jae Rim will be playing the main male character Lu Oh--a cold and distant fencing master. Thus far it has been said that Lee Ha Na is likely to play his opposite as Jung Ma Ri.

Song Jae Rim has been quite active on TV lately, with his appearance in KBS drama'Inspiring Generation,' tvN's 'Surplus Princess,' and most recently MBC's variety show'We Got Married.' Fans are curious to see what new image Song Jae Rim will bring to the table as Lu Oh.

The upcoming drama will feature names such as Song Jae Rim, Kim Hye Ja, Choi Si Ra, and Do Ji Won. 'Unkind Women' will start broadcasting sometime in February.

Kim Ji-suk rivals Song Jae-rim in Unkind Women



The main love triangle is complete for KBS’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama Unkind Women, due out next month: Kim Ji-suk (Angel Eyes) has been cast to rival Song Jae-rim (Surplus Princess) for the affections of Lee Hana (High School King of Savvy), who plays the granddaughter of three generations of not-so-nice women living under one roof. This drama has undergone a number of casting changes in the last few weeks, but things finally seem to be settling down and the production held its first script read this week with the full cast.

Kim Hye-ja (Mother) plays the matriarch, a cooking teacher with a sharp tongue and two adult daughters. Do Ji-won will go from KBS Monday-Tuesday show Healer right over to this one on Wednesday-Thursday, where she’s been cast as the eldest daughter, a successful news anchor. Chae Shi-ra (Five Fingers) plays her sister, who became a mother at age 20 and grew up alongside her own daughter, played by Lee Hana. And Sohn Chang-min (Feel-Good Day) has been cast as Do Ji-won’s love interest.

Kim Ji-suk will play Song Jae-rim’s half-brother — he’s an announcer with a boy-next-door image who comes from a wealthy family and is blessed with looks, brains, and confidence. He’ll be partly responsible for Lee Hana losing her teaching job, so he sets out to help her because he feels bad. Little by little he’ll fall for her in the process, and the two brothers will end up rivals.

The drama comes from the PD of My Daughter Seo-young and Brain, and the writer of When a Man Loves and Equator Man. Based on creds, it should turn out to be a strong family melodrama; I just hope it’s the heartwarming kind and not the histrionic kind. If by unkind we’re talking about four smart women who speak their minds, I’m all for that.
