Plot"Dong Yi" is a historical drama based on the life of Dong-yi later known as Choi Suk-bin(Han Hyo-Joo). Choi worked in the royal palace as a lowly water maid. King Sok-jong then selected Choi as his concubine. Choi would then give to birth Yeong-jo, the second son of King Sok-jong and the future king of Joseon. After the birth of Yeong-jo. Dong-yi would become Suk-bin.

PovesteaAcțiunea dramei este stabilită în timpul regelui Sukjong din dinastia Joseon. Povestea urmărește viața lui Dong Yi, o fată care ajunge să câștige încrederea reginei Inhyeon. Ea este favorizată și de rege, care este mișcat de rugăciunile ei pentru viața reginei în timpul unei dispute la curtea regală provocată de o altă concubină/regină Jang Hee Bin. Dong Yi devine concubină cu rangul de sook-bin. Dong Yi va naște pe cel care va deveni al 21-lea rege de Joseon, Yeongjo (tatăl prințului moștenitor Sado; bunicul lui Yi San).
